GOVERNMENT ISLAND -- Multnomah County River Patrol deputies are investigating a collision between a motor boat and a jet-ski that sent one man to the hospital.

The accident happened around 8 pm Sunday evening on the Columbia River near Chinook Landing.

Witnesses told deputies that a man boating with his wife and two children was speeding through the "no-wake" zone near the dock when he struck a jet ski driven by 28-year old Roger Estrella.

Witnesses say the boat, driven by Gary Clark of Troutdale, never slowed down, and went air-borne after the collision.

Deputies say Estrella's brother-in-law, who was on another jet-ski, jumped into the river to help him. The men were later rescued by another boat that was passing by.

Estrella was taken via ambulance to Emanuel Hospital.

Witnesses told deputies Clark slowed down and circled around after striking the jet-ski, then sped away toward Government Island. Witnesses on the beach and in other boats reportedly yelled at Clark to stop.

Deputies say another unidentified person on a jet ski chased Clark for nearly a mile, before Clark finally returned to Chinook Landing.

At this time, no criminal charges have been filed, according to deputies. River Patrol investigators say they will complete their investigation and forward their findings and recommendations to the District Attorney’s office for further proceedings.

*****NOTE******
Please use caution and common sense out on the water and I wish Estreella a speedy recovery, please keep a heads up and pay attention when operating your boat, these kinds of accidents can be prevented.
