The Walla Walla Union Bulletin is reporting that an angler caught a 90 pound Ahi Tuna at Wallula Junction in the Columbia River. This occurred at around 8:00 am on 10/22/2006.
Ahu Tuna is a salt water ocean fish more commonly found off the coast of Hawaii.
The fish was flown to a Hawaiian lab for further study.
The fish was reportedly caught by Skyler Bee, a 19 year old Walla Walla man.
Skyler, if you are a member, we expect you to chime in a update us about this!

Nuts! But it get's me thinking--most folks believe that anadromous fish are originally saltwater fish and evolved to live in fresh water (rather than the other way around). Maybe we can get the Tuna to do the same??? Wouldn't that be something???

I spoke with a fish counter today who said it was true. I guess he spoke with a biologist in the area who confirmed it.
I know this all sounds like a he said, she said story... but......
He thinks that the Tuna got left behind from its original school and met up with some salmon. So much for segregation.

The article was in Sundays Sports Section of the Walla Walla Union Bulletin. Page B3.
Perhaps you can check their website? I couldn't locate the article online. It reads, "Local catch Baffles Authorities".

At StatesmanJournal.com columnist Henry Miller seems to have investigated this claim. Check it out at www.statesmanjournal.c...075/COLUMN

Well that just figures doesn't it. I figured something was up when I had tried to search all sorts of refrences that I thought should exist, but none of them were panning out. I figured something of that magnitude would make national news just because of how crazy it sounded, and what type of biolodical impact it might of had.
