Looks like my buddy's kitchen pass got revoked for tomorrow so I'm staying local... maybe chase a few walleyes if the wind doesn't blow too hard. Rats.

I loved to catch a walleye, my buddy caught some a few weeks ago and say they are a good fight

Definitely not a good fight, but great eating. Walleye fishing is great fun but they really don't fight much.

It was pretty slow fishing for us today but we didn't get started until the crack of eleven o'clock so I guess I shouldn't complain. We got a half dozen walleyes and a few smallies. Good eats!

Holy cow look at the steelhead counts at Bonneville. 18K, 28K and 34K for the last three days. The old record was 14K in a day so this is totally crazy.

Time to hit the tribs for some summer steel for sure!

And as of yesterday it's something like 100K+ for the last six days... The off-the charts steelhead counts made my skunk at Underwood Saturday that much harder to stomach. Don't know what I was doing wrong -- plenty of fish being caught all around; several folks made their limits and were off the water w/o putting in a full day (although I had plenty of company in the skunked crowd too). It was my first time there, but I do just fine at Drano and figured it was pretty much the same game. For those of you that fish both spots, is there really anything different to the fishing at Underwood? I was fishing pretty close to the bottom -- usually less than two feet up, but I noticed a lot of people fishing higher up for suspended fish, roughly 15-18 feet for the bobber stop in 22+ feet of water. After awhile I started varying my depth a bit, but still nothing. On that humbling note I spent Sunday chucking spinners from the bank on flowing rivers up the gorge a bit and did better. Maybe my prawns just aren't doing the trick; anybody got a fool-proof prawn cure?

I thought I would revive this post.

I can't decide!!! It is now time to put the fishing pole down and grab the shotgun for some bird (duck/goose) hunting and the rifle for elk. But it is sooo hard to put the fishing pole down.

Perhaps a cast and blast....the best of both worlds.
