Mcnary Dam Salmon Fishing
Posted by glock on Saturday, September 20, 2003 (17:02:26) (2641 reads)
09/20/2003 -Lots of people fishing... No bites. Today we entered the waters of the Columbia River at Mcnary Dam. We fished upriver from the dam. We had an extremely active fish finder. In fact, I don't have any doubt that we found the fish... Getting them to bite was another thing.
We fished with the assistance of down riggers using kwikfish and wiggle warts. The kwikfish was loaded with bait. The fish were showing a depth of 70 - 80' and mostly appeared to be on the bottom. I fished at this depth. Others in my party fished anywhere from 15' - 80' using various lures and techniques.
We entered the waterway at approximately 0730 hours. The water temperature was showing 65 - 66 degrees. There were approximately 15 - 20 other boats on the water. We trolled from 0730 until around 0100 hours. We did not have a single bite nor observed a fish being caught.
We ended up moving the boat upriver to Wallula Junction shortly after 1300 hours to fish for Steelhead. We had the chance to speak to the area Biologist. He had told me that today he inteviewed around 100 people fishing and only heard of three fish being caught.
We fished from 1300 to 1545 hours. We used shrimp and bobbers from the boat with no success. No fish were observed being caught from other anglers in the area.
Overall -bad day of fishing, good day of company. Better luck next time

Steelhead caught at Lions Ferry on the Snake River
Posted by glock on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 (17:01:14) (1284 reads)
It would seem reasonable to believe that much of my time has been spent watching my bobber or lure peacefully float in the water. This had made me reflect back on the old saying, "Fish or Cut bait". Today I had the chance to Fish.. and cut bait.
I caught the following fish on a red and black rock dancer. I was using a shrimp with shrimp oil added for scent. I also was trying a new item I purchased called "instant dye".
We had a break a nice cold spell the night prior to catching this fish. It was very active and I had many missed lite take-downs.
27 inches and 7 pounds of Steelhead!

Lower Monumental Dam Steelhead Fishing
Posted by glock on Thursday, September 11, 2003 (16:59:32) (2486 reads)
09/11/2003 -Today I fished for steelhead at Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River. I fished off the bank on the north upriver side of the dam. There was only one other person fishing this area. I had a small nibble with catching a fish. Here is the setup that I was using.
Red/Black Rock Dancer, Pink colored Shrimp, a lite-weight bobber. 6 - 8' of depth approximately 20' from shore.
Water temperature showing on the FPC web site was 69 degrees at Lower Monumental for this date. Photographs below

Fishing for Steelhead near Wallula Junction a Flop
Posted by glock on Wednesday, September 10, 2003 (16:57:59) (1686 reads)
09/10/2003 -I decided to try my luck on the Columbia River near Wallula Junction today. I was fishing off the bank with a rock dancer. I tried a red, black, yellow, and purple rock dancer with no luck. I used pink colored and standard shrimp. I was fishing at approximately 6 - 8 feet of depth. I had one take-down during my adventure. I fished from 0900 - 1130 hours.
Better luck next time!
